Easily apply ceramic decorations yourself
How to Apply Decals Easily
With our ready-to-use decals, you can easily apply high-quality ceramic decorations yourself – no printer, no complicated equipment needed. This guide shows you how to achieve professional results in just a few simple steps.
Ready to Use
Your step-by-step guide to perfect results
1. Preparing the Surface
The surface to be decorated must be clean, dry, and completely free of dust, grease, or other residues. Only on a perfectly prepared surface can the decal adhere optimally and achieve an even firing result.
2. Cutting Out the Design
Carefully cut out the desired design from the sheet using scissors or a craft knife. Leaving a small margin around the image can make handling during transfer easier.
3. Soaking the Decal
Place the cut-out design in lukewarm water for 30 to 60 seconds. The printed transfer layer will begin to detach from the backing paper. As soon as the image slides easily, it is ready for transfer.
4. Positioning on the Object
Gently slide the freed transfer layer onto the ceramic or glass object and position it precisely at the desired location. This step should be done carefully to ensure exact alignment of the design.
5. Removing Water and Air Bubbles
Using a soft cloth or rubber squeegee, smooth the design from the center outward. This removes both excess water and any trapped air bubbles. Ensure that the transfer layer does not shift.
6. Drying Phase
After transferring, the decorated object must dry completely. A drying time of at least four hours at room temperature is recommended. Longer drying overnight further improves adhesion before firing.
7. Firing Process
Depending on the material and application, the object is then fired in a ceramic kiln. The following firing ranges apply:
On-glaze firing: 700–920 °C
In-glaze firing: 920–1250 °C
The kiln should be heated up and cooled down slowly to avoid stress cracks or deformations. During firing, the backing and lacquer layers burn off without residue, and the ceramic pigment bonds permanently with the glaze or surface of the object.
Final Note:
After firing, the decorations are permanently fixed, dishwasher-safe, UV-resistant, and resistant to mechanical wear. The ready-to-use decals are ideal for dishware, tiles, glass objects, as well as artisanal or industrial applications.
